about
‘What You See’ is the debut single by Melbourne based Punjabi-Australian vocalist Parvyn, released independently on the 2nd July, 2021. The single represents a new direction for the vocalist, with garage-esque bounce and 808 bass melded with eastern strings, and sweetly delivered rnb layered vocals sung in English and Punjabi. A collaboration with Melbourne producer Joelistics, the song is a heartfelt challenge to recognise our subjectivities - our lived experience, our culture, our race, our tastes and our perception.
lyrics
Tell me what you see
Tell me what you see
Rearrange the colour
Filtered through the window
Hazy apparition
Come out of all the shadows
Feel, feel
Possibly, we both see
Different sides of the same
If you were me, would you see
A different picture in the frame?
The smoke trails we follow
Made of a million tiny embers
Like the words we swallow
Burning in our minds now and forever
Sa Ga Pa Sa Pa Sa Re,
Pa Ma, Pa Ma Ga, Pa Ma Ga Re
Sa Ga Pa Sa Pa Sa Re,
Pa Ma Ni Ni Pa Ma Ga Pa Ma Ga Re
Sa Ga Pa Sa Pa Sa Re,
Pa Ma Ga Ni Dha Pa Ma Ga Pa Ma Ga Re
Sa Ga Pa Sa Pa Sa Re
, Ni Dha Pa Sa Ni Dha Pa Re Sa Ni Dha Pa Ma Ga Re
Possibly, we both see
Different sides of the same
If you were me, (if you were me) would you see (would you see)
A different picture in the frame?
Tell me what you see
